EEC News
EEC has several new and exciting initiatives:
Science: It's a Girl Thing!
Through a grant from the National Science Foundation for Science: It's a Girl Thing! we are adapting our award-winning program "Playtime is Science" for parents and caregivers of children ages 4 - 8. Click here to learn more.
Afterschool Inclusive Math (AIM)
With funding from the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation and the NEC Foundation of America, EEC's highly successful After-School Math PLUS program is being implemented in inclusive settings and disseminated nationally. In addition, EEC has produced guidelines for fostering inclusion through afterschool math, which are now available for download. Click here to learn more.
Roundtables for Advancing the Profession (RAPs)
EEC collaborated with our After-School Math PLUS museum partners to host RAPs about creating partnerships between afterschool centers and science museums. Our RAP sites were: the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, the Louisville Science Center, the Maine Discovery Center and the St. Louis Science Center. After-School Math PLUS was the model for creating partnerships.
Great Science for Girls (GSG)
A second round of intermediary organizations have signed on to bring GSG to their communities. New sites in Chicago, Baltimore, Florida and San Francisco participated in Professional Development Institutes that prepared them to roll out the program during the 2008-2009 school year. First year sites are implementing evidence-based curriculum and are expanding their outreach to new centers.
